Geoffrey Bullock
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I began working with
Men's issues in 1992 when a colleague and I formed our first
Men's support group for our own benefit. Shortly after, he and I
started Man Alive, a practice focused on counseling with
men. After a year or so he moved on to other interests, and Man Alive
ceased to exist. However, I continued to offer and facilitate Men's
groups as part of my practice continually from 1994 - 2003. Over the
past 5 years my practice took me in other directions,
and my offering of men's groups lapsed.
Now that I am in midlife myself, I
recognize the importance for men to have a "safe place" to directly
tackle the issues that often arise for us at this time. So I am
offering this new Men's Group specifically targeted to assist men
with the challenges we often encounter at this major transition in our
lives. |
For Men Between 40
and 65 Needing a Place to:
|
|
understand why you're "not feeling
like yourself"... |
| |
have candid talk about changes you're
facing... |
| |
|
directly tackle your challenges or
concerns... |
| |
|
|
offer & receive genuine support
with
men... |
| |
|
|
|
and
benefit from other men's experience. |

This group is
for men in
midlife to come together with the purpose
of
genuine inquiry, personal exploration, and mutual support. Most of us encounter a
few surprises when various aspects of "maturing"
actually begin to emerge in our lives. You may be
facing changes or uncertainty about your career,
relationships, body, sexuality, spirituality, role
as a father/son, or even questioning some long held
beliefs and values. Often these issues can be quite disruptive
to our quality of life, but talking about these
concerns isn't easy. Perhaps you haven't found the
people or places where you feel truly safe or
comfortable to
have candid and frank discussions about your
concerns. This group's purpose
is to
provide that place and those people.

This
group is a MEN'S COUNSELING GROUP and differs from some of
the more common "men's support groups". While we
may engage in some structured activities, this
is not a male bonding or rituals group. This group
will give you an opportunity to directly
address the specific issues and challenges you are facing
with the guidance of a professional counselor and
the
support of other men. That does
not mean anyone will be pressured to disclose or
address issues against his wishes, but it does
provide safe place to
get into your deep and dark corners if wanted. The
focus is on midlife issues, but any concerns
important to a group member may be addressed.
The group size is limited to 6 members in order for
each person to have adequate opportunity to address his
individual concerns. Due to the nature of this group
and the importance of developing trusting
relationships, members are required to make a 2
month commitment.
